Style: Part traditional allotment (possibly with raised beds) part cottage style flower garden.
The main objectives are to produce an allotment which can also sustain wildlife with flowers and draw in pollinators.
The North (left side) will be hedged with a mix of fruit bushes and Hornbeam (which is more forgiving of Clay soil) this will give additional protection from the North wind.
Sweetcorn beds may need 'metal fence protection' (because of badgers apparently). Brassicas and strawberries will also need net cover once pollinated due to the presence of birds such as pheasants.
Lavender and Foxgloves will provide some deer protection borders together with a coppice fence which I shall weave in Spring. Over-winter the plot will be 'Green Manured' with Rye.
In the Spring a new shed will be added complete with a cottage style garden of flowers such as Delphiniums and Lupins. Alliums and bulbs will need to skip a year due to timing.
The wildflower area touches on the shed's own flower garden area whilst obscuring unsightly compost bins (constructed with tied pallets). A series of 'bee hotels' will be placed within the wild flower area as well as an assortment of old sticks and wood. Already the allotment has presented toads and lizards so they require a home!
